Do you ever get that feeling?
The feeling where your body is exhausted and your mind is sharp and raring to go? That’s how my Saturday is going. I drank coffee earlier today, probably around mid-day, for a pick-me up, and now my body is crashing.
It’s not that I did so much. I think I spent 90% of my day talking myself into working an extra shift. In the end, I got a few extra hours in for work, which was nice.
It was cold today in West Michigan. Only hit a high of ~47 degrees Fahrenheit. As you can imagine, I bundled up in my warmest comfy clothes, a pair of sweatpants and a sweatshirt. I spent about an hour working on a puzzle and now I am sitting in bed with my comforter wrapped around me and my dog at my side. The snow might not be on the ground yet, but the weather has definitely shifted.
I am a third of the way through my next read: Quicksilver by Callie Hart. I am enjoying it, but I’ve been wrapped up in so many activities lately, that I fear I have neglected it a bit. I’ve been caught up in several Romantasies lately. What book is on your nightstand right now? Would you recommend it?
Veteran’s day is coming up in a few days. Is there a special Veteran in your life that you’d like to thank? I can think of many, all of those who served beside me in the Army, but there is one memory that really sparks my gratitude. It is the time I was shown true character through leadership. The moment I learned what leadership really is.
Jogging Down Memory Lane
I was running for a physical fitness test in the army, and was getting tired out. Two noncommissioned officers, caught up to me, running beside me to push me harder and motivate me to finish strong. It’s the little things someone does to keep you moving, keep you fighting, keep you pushing yourself to reach your goals and beyond. I will always be grateful for those two sergeants and the positive impact they had on me. They were true soldiers, and I am grateful they took an interest in my training. It’s a moment that stands out to me in my short career in the military. Leadership by example. It’s something I strive for in my new career as well. It’s not always easy to find, but when you do find it in someone, those people touch your soul in a way like nothing else could.
It was a small act, but the impact resonated with me for years.
Other very important veteran’s in my life include my father, a Vietnam veteran of the Navy, and many other family members in various branches, including Navy, Air force, and Army, and a handful of friends who served beside me.
You really can’t go far in the United States without meeting people who either know someone, or served in the military themselves. Our whole country is touched by the special souls who put their lives out there on the line, for us to have the creature comforts we often take for granted. They all deserve our gratitude.
I’ve got a little over 20 minutes before I turn on the newest Hallmark Christmas movie. I am hoping that I make through it to the end, without drifting off into sleepy oblivion.
Sending you all good vibes from West Michigan tonight! Have a great night!
